The Teleflex Arrow CV-12703 is a three-lumen central venous catheter set used to establish multi-port central venous access in adult ICU, surgical, and acute care patients. Once inserted, it provides three simultaneous, independent channels into the central venous circulation — each capable of delivering drugs, fluids, blood products, or parenteral nutrition, or monitoring central venous pressure, at the same time without mixing or cross-contaminating infusions between lumens.
The catheter is inserted using the Seldinger (guidewire) technique — the included 18Ga introducer needle accesses the target vein, the spring-wire guide is advanced through the needle, the tissue dilator tracks over the wire to open the insertion tract, and the catheter is loaded over the wire and advanced to the correct depth. The SecondSite™ adjustable hub is then used to fix the catheter to the skin at the chosen external length and secure it with the suture fastener.
At 16 cm, the CV-12703 is sized for right internal jugular and right subclavian access in most adult patients — placing the catheter tip in the distal superior vena cava or cavoatrial junction. This length is generally too short for left-sided internal jugular or left subclavian access, where a 20 cm catheter is typically required.
Key Features
Radiopaque Polyurethane Construction - The catheter is made from medical-grade polyurethane with a radiopaque additive throughout the material. This allows the catheter shaft and tip to be clearly visualised on chest X-ray, confirming correct tip position at the cavoatrial junction without needing contrast or additional imaging.
Extra Thin-Wall (XTW) Introducer Needle - The 18Ga XTW needle has a thinner wall than standard thin-wall needles — providing a larger internal diameter for the same outer gauge. This allows the .032" spring-wire guide to pass through smoothly while the 18Ga outer diameter creates a smaller initial puncture in the vessel wall.
Arrow Advancer Guidewire Control - The spring-wire guide is supplied with the Arrow Advancer — a single-hand wire-feeding device that allows controlled, incremental advancement of the guidewire through the needle while the operator's other hand maintains needle stability. This reduces the risk of inadvertent wire withdrawal or excessive advancement during the exchange.
SecondSite Adjustable Hub System - The two-piece SecondSite hub — fastener and catheter clamp — allows the external catheter length to be set precisely after insertion without re-positioning the catheter in the vein. The hub slides to the desired position and is locked, providing a suture point without damaging the catheter body at the fixation point.
Staggered Triple-Port Distal Configuration - The three lumen ports open at different points along the distal catheter — not at the same level. This staggers the exit points of drugs and fluids infusing through each lumen, reducing the risk of precipitation reactions between incompatible drugs that could otherwise meet at a shared intravascular exit point.
Colour-Coded Lumen Hubs & Clamps - Each of the three lumens is colour-coded at the hub — proximal (brown), medial, and distal — allowing instant visual identification of which port is being accessed at the bedside. Colour-coded clamps on each extension arm further prevent accidental opening of the wrong lumen during drug administration.
