Fisher & Paykel BC191 FlexiTrunk Universal Nasal CPAP Interface — Midline Nasal Tubing, 70 mm

Inquire Now

The BC191 FlexiTrunk is the nasal tubing component of the F&P Infant CPAP Interface system. It is placed at the midline of the infant's face and acts as the connection point between the breathing circuit and the nasal prongs or mask. Its primary clinical role is to deliver continuous positive airway pressure to spontaneously breathing neonates and infants in the NICU — maintaining lung recruitment, reducing apnoea episodes, and avoiding intubation in preterm infants.

The BC191 "Universal" series includes adaptor connectors compatible with 8 mm, 10 mm, and 12 mm circuit fittings — meaning it works with the F&P BC161/BC163 Bubble CPAP systems as well as common third-party ventilator circuits. The tubing sits along the centre of the infant's face, held in place by a foam block that rests on the nose bridge — keeping the interface stable during routine infant movement and caregiving.

Supplied in India by Shah Trading Corporation, Mumbai — trusted distributor and supplier of Fisher & Paykel Healthcare neonatal products.

Key Features

Patented Glider Technology - The glider mechanism allows nasal prongs or masks to be repositioned without removing the tubing — keeping circuit straps away from the infant's face and reducing skin trauma during adjustments.

Foam Block Holder - A soft foam block rests on the nose bridge and anchors the tubing in place. It absorbs movement from the infant and the circuit, preventing accidental displacement of the prongs or mask interface.

Large-Diameter Tubing - The wide internal bore significantly reduces resistance to gas flow — important for neonates who cannot overcome high circuit resistance, ensuring CPAP delivery is not compromised by tubing design.

Moisture-Wicking Interface - Built-in moisture-wicking material draws condensate away from the infant's nasal area, reducing the risk of skin maceration and keeping the seal area clean and dry during humidified therapy.

Capped Pressure Monitoring Port - A dedicated capped port allows connection of an external pressure monitor line — giving clinical staff real-time delivered pressure readings. When not in use, the cap maintains circuit integrity.

Universal Circuit Compatibility - The BC19x Universal series connects to circuits with 8 mm, 10 mm, and 12 mm connectors — compatible with F&P Bubble CPAP systems and third-party ventilator circuits on CPAP mode.

Prone & Supine Positioning Support - The flexible midline extension tube accommodates multiple infant care positions — including prone (tummy), supine, and side-lying — without placing stress on the nasal prongs or mask seal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the BC191 be used with both the infant nasal mask and nasal prongs?

Yes. The BC191 tubing is compatible with the full F&P Infant Interface accessory range — including all F&P Infant Nasal Prongs (BC3xxx series) and the F&P Infant Nasal Masks (BC800 Small, BC801 Medium, BC802 Large, BC803 XLarge). Clinical teams can switch between prong and mask interfaces on the same tubing assembly, which is particularly useful during nasal rest periods where the mask may be used temporarily to allow skin recovery at the nares.

What is the difference between the BC191 Universal series and the BC181 Standard series?

The BC181 Standard series is designed exclusively for use with the F&P Bubble CPAP system circuit connectors. The BC191 Universal series (including the BC191) includes multi-size adaptors that allow connection to circuits with 8 mm, 10 mm, or 12 mm fittings — covering both F&P and third-party ventilators. If your NICU uses a mix of circuit brands, the BC191 Universal is the appropriate choice.

Why is the 70 mm length (BC191) the most commonly ordered size?

The 70 mm length suits most standard NICU setups where the breathing circuit approaches from above or the side of the incubator. The shorter BC190 (50 mm) is used when circuit length needs to be minimised — such as in very compact incubator arrangements. The longer BC192 (100 mm) provides additional reach for larger infants or specific circuit routing needs. The 70 mm BC191 covers the majority of everyday clinical situations and is the default stocked size in most NICUs.
